Although he is well known for philanthropy, the quality most often attributed to Phil is that of having a servant’s heart, both in his community and within his company. He is involved in the day to day operations of his company and develops personal relationships with employees. The ability to serve is the basis for every venture Phil undertakes. Service is the most important element of his business philosophy and he expects his staff to adopt that same philosophy.
To that end, Phil serves on the board of directors for many organizations, to include Alabama Power, Greater Birmingham Association of Home Builders, also, serving as its Governmental Affairs Advocacy Vice-Chair, Calhoun County Home Builders Association, The University of Alabama President’s Cabinet, The Rising Tide Capital Campaign Cabinet of the University of Alabama, JSU Foundation, JSU School of Business & Industry, Calhoun County Economic Development Council, NobleBank & Trust, and The Donoho School. Phil is both a board member and past chairman of the Calhoun County Chamber of Commerce, YMCA of Calhoun County, and Knox Concert Series. Phil is a member of the Calhoun County Quarterback Club, Anniston Rotary Club and previously served on the Habitat for Humanity board. Phil is a former board member of The Right Place. He is also a former board member and past chairman of the McClellan Development Authority.
On the state level, Phil served 6 years as Finance Chairman of the Alabama Republican Party and served 2 years as Chairman of the Board for the Greater Alabama Council Boy Scouts of America. He also serves on the board of directors for the Business Council of Alabama and ProgressPAC, the Alabama Workforce Council, the Community Food Bank of Central Alabama, and Great State Alabama. He is currently a member of the Calhoun County, St. Clair County, Etowah County, and Rome, Georgia Home Builders Associations. As well as a member of Leadership Alabama. An avid sports fan, Phil serves on the Selection Committee for the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame.
